Serial Coordinate Measuring Mechanism is an electro-mechanical coordinate measuring device. The device can measure coordinates of a point as well as that of the approach vector to the point. This device has 5 degrees of freedom (5 Axes). Each joint is mounted with mini incremental encoders to sense the joint angles. The device is supported by an encoder interface, driver software for real time data processing and GUI to log and read the measurements in various modes.

Serial Coordinate Measuring Mechanism is a portable electro-mechanical coordinate measuring device. The device can measure coordinates (X, Y, Z) of a point as well as the approach direction to the point. By tracing on any surface by probe tip, a point cloud can be generated. This point cloud data can be processed by a commercial CAD package for several applications such as shape/ form generation of an object for reverse engineering applications, establishing frame of reference in medical applications and feature measurement & comparison of manufactured components.

The device is primarily designed towards surgical-registration and surgical navigation application in Neurosurgical suite. It can also be used as a standalone measurement device for other applications.

1. A five DOF passive (no motors/actuators) mechanism.
2. Encoder Interface: It is interfaced with SCMM with a cable and is connected to a PC via. a USB cable and requires a 220V power supply.
3. PC with Windows 7 (and above) operating system with SCMM software module application.
