SOCIAL SERVICE

The Social Service Section has strength of 8 social workers at present. The Social Service Section began functioning with the inception of the Contributory Health Service Scheme & Medical Division. The main aim was to provide individuals a holistic approach to attaining positive health. Over the years the strength of the staff has increased as also the range of activities. There are four Medical Social Workers (MSW) posted in the hospital, of which 2 are in Psychiatric OPD and 2 in Social Service Section, while the other 4 MSWs are posted in various dispensaries.

In the hospital the MSW’s function involves the following:

  • Cases referred from different OPDs, wards as well as self referrals for counseling, domestic problems, marital discord, children presenting behavior problems, scholastic backwardness etc.
  • Employees who need job assessment due to ailments wherein MSW liaises with the individual’s superior and the consultant to help rehabilitate him.
  • Obtain psycho-social data for cases applying for CHSS extension above the age of 25 years.
  • Assists administration in assessing and attesting the entitlement papers of deceased employees.
  • Obtain necessary documents and entails for processing of cases for Family Relief Scheme settlement.
  • Group session with varied groups of individuals e.g. Breast cancer patients, patients undergoing dialysis, post natal sessions in the ward, sessions with parents of neonates in the well baby clinic etc.
  • Undertaking research studies
  • Organizing training programmes
  • At the dispensary level the MSW functions involves:

  • Educating patients suffering from communicable & lifestyle diseases and their relatives regarding the nature of the illness, precautions to be taken and risks of irregular treatment. Non complaint patients are meticulously followed up with the active cooperation of their family. All cases of TB Hanses’s are followed up every month to ensure compliance with treatment.
  • Handing cases of individuals & families presenting with social problems by counseling & psychotherapy.
  • Participating in the well baby and TB clinics in the dispensaries.
  • Organizing health awareness programmes and talks in the dispensaries.
  • Making and putting up educative and informative posters in the dispensaries.
  • Paying home visits / office visits / school visits as and when required
  • Paying condolence visits to the family of deceased BARC employee, living in the vicinity.
  • Guiding and assisting the widow in procuring all the documents required for completion of entitlement paper and filling up the papers.
