MEDICAL STATISTICS

Introduction:

The Medical Statistics section plays a crucial role in data-related activities within the Medical Division, with a primary focus on Health System Management and Public Health. As part of health system management, the section has developed a comprehensive Management Information System (MIS) to publish internal reports. These reports are based on datasets from the Hospital Information System (HIS) and serve as a foundation for research studies conducted by the section or in collaboration with other units.

The core mission of the Medical Statistics section is to continuously support the management in providing enhanced patient care. They achieve this through the production of Management Information System (MIS) reports, which are circulated internally. These reports encompass vital details about medical division services, dispensary-wise community population distribution, waiting times at specialty clinics, OPD attendance, wards occupancy utilization, service order statistics, referrals overview, and other relevant information. Additionally, the section actively handles immunization reports and communicable diseases reports as per the periodic directives of the Government.

Furthermore, the Medical Statistics section engages in studies related to community healthcare needs and collaborates with medical officers to support their research work. Notably, the CHSS (Community Health Service Scheme) community population shares similarities with the demography of developed nations worldwide. It is important to address the unique healthcare needs of this community, which differs significantly from the national population. For instance, the community population comprises more than 25% geriatric individuals, in contrast to the national average of 9.8%, making tailored healthcare services essential.

The section is well-versed in Applied Statistical techniques required for in-house research work. This involves academic project work for postgraduate (DNB) medical students, as well as institutional research projects initiated by officials. The Senior Statistician, Prashant Bhandarkar, is a member of the Institutional Scientific Committee, contributing to the advancement of research initiatives.
