BARC Hospital is caters to the need of more than 100,000 beneficiaries under the Contributory Health Service Scheme (CHSS). To keep pace with growing patient’s information it was decided to induct modern information management technology for processing of hospital information. The advantages of such a system would be availability of an orderly set of patient information, faster retrieval of documents, decentralized access to data bank, systematic archival, uniformity in information format, reduced duplication, better clarity, higher accuracy etc.

Computer Division, BARC, was entrusted with installation and commissioning of computer system, in-house software development, system operation, user training and day-to-day system administration. The computer system comprises of Compaq, Proliant-370, UNIX Operating system and Data Base Management System.

The Hospital Information Management System (HIMS) designed using Client/Server architecture.

It was visualized, demand of the package (HIMS) in Private & Public Sector, that a copy right of the package is needed and hence copyright of this package (HIMS) has been obtained from ministry of Human Resource & Development, Department of Education (Copyright Sector), New Delhi, India.

Know-How Transfer

The HIMS Package is designed using state of art technology to meet the needs of the BARC Hospital, Mumbai. As a spin off technology transfer system was installed at various places as
1) Adyar Cancer Institute, Chennai.
2) Mathadi Hospital, Kopar Khairane, New Mumbai. (Registration, Pharmacy, Investigations Module).
This package can be installed, with minimum customization, to the other General Hospital on Pentium based server using RDBMS.

Present HIS @ BARC Hospital

A new HIS is being designed using Unix Operating system and MySql open source Data Base Management System using web based technologies’ This project is being execute with the help of third party vendor@AVV.

Computer Division ,BARC is fully responsible for the further development and enhancement of software package, installation, operational and maintenance of the system with co-ordination @AVV at BARC Hospital, as per the requirement of Medical Division, BARC.
