Stand-alone Ultrafiltration (UF) system

Overview

These units are solar photovoltaic (PV) driven, battery-less, off-grid, stand-alone Ultrafiltration (UF) systems for water purification. On sunny days, they can be operated for 9 – 10 hours/day. They are capable of removing un-dissolved species such as, dust, turbidity, microorganisms etc. from drinking water. These units are best suited for remote/rural areas where electricity is not available or the voltage is not stable. They can be used in urban areas also. As they are portable, they will be of great help for people working in desert areas, as in the case of defense personnel.

The units are available in two sizes:

1) 10 lph capacity for domestic use
2) 100 lph capacity for community use

  • The UF water purifier based on BARC technology can be upgraded by integrating it with the solar power unit.

  • Compact and light weighted, can be used as mobile units.

  • The solar power unit is a one time investment.

  • No day-to-day maintenance and running cost.

  • No chemicals required.

  • Filtered water is devoid of pathogens, turbidity & colour.

  • By using the pump, the productivity/ capacity of any gravity-operated water purifier can be enhanced by around 2 times.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

  • In these units, water purification takes place by a pressure driven, membrane based process called ultrafiltration.
  • Electricity required for pressurization is generated with the help of solar PV system.

  • These units are best suited for remote/rural areas where electricity is not available or the voltage is not stable. They can be used in urban areas also. As they are portable, they will be of great help for people working in desert areas, as in the case of defense personnel.

RAW MATERIALS

  • All the components are available in Indian market. Technology for UF based water purifier operating under tap pressure can be obtained from BARC as a separate/additional technology.

SPACE REQUIRED

  • For doing assembly/ integration of the components, a space of 10 m2 (min) area is required. Testing is done outside. Area requirement for storage of materials can be decided by the party, as it will vary depending on the amount of inventory.

MANPOWER REQUIREMENT

  • Assembly is manual and simple. One single person can assemble a unit, following the provided P&I diagram. Testing/operation also can be done by a single person who knows normal operation of a pump.

Who Should apply


Interested parties with Engineering & Scientific knowledge, good financial background and adequate experience of products manufacturing & fabrication with technical capability in the area of interested technology and having or interested in setting –up facilities for production would be preferred.

Send your Technology Transfer Application form duly filled and signed alongwith a Demand Draft/Bankers cheque of Rs. 500/- (for Indian entities) or US $50/- (for foreign entities) drawn in favour of “Accounts Officer, BARC” as application processing fee on following address:
