Radiation & Photochemistry Divison is the basic research wing of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, working in the area of chemistry at fast and ultrafast time scale, towards possible application in energy, material, health and environment. The mandate of the Division is to conduct fundamental and applied research in the field of radiation and photochemistry using ionizing radiation and photons. Nano and picoseconds pulse radiolysis along with dielectric barrier discharge technique have improved the knowledge in the field of free radical chemistry, antioxidants, nanomaterials and water chemistry in reactor conditions. On the other hand, development of the most modern and sophisticated laser spectroscopic techniques have helped to enrich understanding of relaxation processes in the excited states of molecules, nano-aggregates, quantum dots, chemistry of atmosphere and surfaces, polymer extractants and supramolecular chemistry. Vision of the division is to apply the fundamental knowledge in finding new materials for sensors, solar energy storage, drug delivery, as well as developing new techniques for detecting explosives & control of chemical reactions.
